Tare weight allows for the accurate measurement of the net weight of goods by subtracting the weight of packaging or containers.

Reference this article here to create a new bottle deposit or tare container.

There are two ways you can add a tare container to an item - the item options menu or via Quick action.

Follow along below to see how you can use either option.

Note: You can only add a tare container to an item that is sold by weight.

Adding a tare container via item options

  • Add a sold by weight item to the basket

  • Tap onto the item

  • Tap ... More

  • Tap + Add Taxes & Modifiers

  • Tap Tare

  • Select one of your pre-set containers or enter a custom weight

  • Tap apply changes to complete this step

Adding a tare container via quick action

We can add a Tare container quick action to your cashier screen. If you don't have this option and would like to enable it, please reach out to us and we can add it remotely. This option provides a shortcut to the tare container screen.

  • Enter the item sold by weight

  • Tap Tare quick action

  • Select one of your pre-set containers or enter a custom weight

  • Tap apply changes to complete this step

How to enter a custom weight for a tare container

  • In the tare menu tap custom weight

  • Auto: reads the weight on the scale

    • Use this option if you have removed the item from the container and you only want to weigh the container

  • Manual: enter the tare weight using the 10-key

  • Tap accept weight to complete this step

How to confirm a tare container was applied

  • Once you Apply Changes the weight of the tare container will be deducted from the weight of the item.

Changing tare container

If an item already has a tare container applied, the tare option will be greyed out. If you want to change the tare, you must remove the existing tare.

After removing the existing tare container, you can proceed to add new container.
