Type 2 UPCs (also known as variable weight barcodes) have the item PLU and price embedded into the barcode. These are commonly found on meat, bulk or cheese products that are weighed and packed using a separate deli scale.

In Vori, you must add the Type 2 UPC to your product catalog for it to be scannable at the POS.

To create a type 2 UPC, follow along below.

Create a Type 2 UPC from the Products Page:

  1. Tap New Product

  2. Barcode Field:

    1. Should always start with a 2

    2. Enter five digits for PLU

      1. EX: If PLU is 850, enter 00850

    3. Enter five 0's

      1. EX: 20085000000

    4. Enter the suggested UPC missing check digit(#)

  3. Enter the necessary product details (Name, Department, etc)

  4. Product Pricing: retail price is not relevant, as the scanner will automatically read the price embedded in the barcode.
โ€‹Note: Do not mark item to be sold by weight, otherwise the POS will prompt you to re-weigh the item

  5. Tap Save

Example:

In this example, we will be creating a Type 2 UPC for Baby Oats, PLU# 850

  1. Tap New Product

  2. In the Barcode Field:

    1. Start with 2

    2. Followed by PLU: 00850

    3. Followed by five zero's: 00000

  5. Tap Save

Create a Type 2 UPC on VoriOS app

  1. Go to the Search bar

  2. Start the UPC with 2

  3. Enter five digits for PLU

    1. EX: PLU is 805, you would enter 00805

  4. Enter five 0's

    1. EX: 20080500000

  5. Select Create New Product

  6. Tap the Barcode field, and you will see UPC missing check digit(#)

  7. Enter the suggested missing check digit

  8. Add Product Details manually

  9. Select Department and/or Sub-Department

  10. Select Settings (if Department-level settings are enabled, you will see the link๐Ÿ”— next to it)

  11. Add Vendor information (optional)

  12. Add Pricing Details - retail price is not relevant, as the scanner will automatically read the price embedded in the barcode.
โ€‹Note: Do not mark item to be sold by weight, otherwise the POS will prompt you to re-weigh the item

  13. Tap Save

Additional Notes:

  • You must enter five zeros after the PLU, as this is where the price will be automatically populated from the deli scale.
