Overview
When reviewing order history, you might notice that the last four digits of a customer’s card don’t match the physical card they used. This is because Apple Pay and Google Pay generate a unique Device Account Number for each transaction.
Why Do the Last Four Digits Look Different?
Instead of showing the customer’s actual card number, digital wallets use a secure, tokenized number. The last four digits displayed in your system or on the receipt reflect this token, not the actual card.
How to Find the Actual Card Number
If a customer has questions about a charge, compare the last four digits in your system with their device’s virtual card number rather than their physical card. This ensures accurate transaction tracking and avoids confusion.
Directions to find the virtual card number by payment type can be found below:
Apple Pay:
Open the Wallet app on your iPhone.
Select the card you used for the transaction.
Tap on the More Information (i) button.
Look for the Device Account Number—this is the number associated with your Apple Pay transactions.
Compare this number with the last four digits shown on your receipt or billing statement.
Google Pay:
Open the Google Wallet app.
Tap on the card you used.
Scroll down to find the Virtual Account Number or DAN.
The last four digits of this number should match what appears on your receipt.
