Understanding eWIC Refunds and Voids

Learn how eWIC transactions are handled when processing returns and voids, and what options are available on the POS.

eWIC Refunds

When a shopper returns an item originally purchased with eWIC, the practice is to not process a refund back to the eWIC card.

WIC regulations do not support returns to the card due to rules related to fraud prevention and the time-sensitive nature of the benefits.

Because a direct return to the eWIC card is not supported, you will only see general refund options (Cash or Gift Card) when processing a return for an eWIC transaction.

⚠️ Caution: While the POS may display Cash or Gift Card as options, many states do not permit refunds in cash or store credit (via Gift Card) for WIC purchases. You should follow your store policy and your state's WIC regulations regarding these refund methods.

  • If a shopper does not have a receipt, it may be impossible to confirm if the original purchase was made with WIC, leaving the final refund decision to the store manager.


eWIC Voids

Vori currently does not support voiding a transaction with eWIC items once it has been completed.
