Troubleshoot Receipt Printer Issues (Garbled Receipts or Random Printing)
Fix garbled receipts or random printing by power cycling the printer
Introduction
Receipt printers can occasionally enter an error state where they begin processing print jobs incorrectly. This may cause the printer to output unreadable text, partially formatted receipts, or even print unexpectedly without a transaction being closed.
When this happens, the printer typically needs a quick reset to clear its temporary memory (RAM) and reinitialize the print connection. The simplest way to do this is to power cycle the printer using the switch on the front.
Restart the receipt printer
- Flip the power switch on the front left of the receipt printer to the off position.
- Waiting 10 seconds.
- Flip the power switch back to the on position.
