Understand Floating Till Challenges
Using a shared till across multiple cashiers (also called a “floating till”) can lead to confusion if roles and processes aren’t clearly defined. Vori POS tracks activity by session, not cashier, on the printed Till Report, which makes it harder to identify who was over or short when more than one person uses the same till.
Recommended Setup
If you plan to use floating tills, follow these steps to keep reports accurate and shift transitions smooth:
-
Assign one cashier per till per shift.
-
Avoid having multiple users log in to the same till in one session.
-
-
Have managers open and close tills.
- Managers should:
- Open tills at the start of each shift and assign a cashier to each one.
- Close tills and count cash at the end of the shift.
- Print the Till Report and attach it to the drop.
- After a till is closed, the Till Report can be printed directly from the POS.
- Managers should:
- Use the printed Till Report to reconcile drops
- This ensures a clean paper trail between shifts and accountability per cashier.
💡 Tip: Stick to "one cashier = one session = one report."
Alternative: Use a Set Opening Amount
If you’d prefer not to open and close tills between shifts, you can use a set starting amount in the drawer.
Here’s how that works:
- Keep a consistent base amount in the till (e.g., $170).
- Only perform a drop when the till exceeds a threshold (e.g., $500).
- Print the Till Report at the end of the day for reconciliation.
To do this:
-
Turn off “Count Till on Close.”
-
Set starting balances to either
$0
or your standard opening amount (e.g.,$170
)
✏️ Note: This method is faster, but may not provide per-shift cash tracking unless additional controls are added.
Troubleshooting
Issue: The printed Till Report doesn’t show activity by the cashier.
- Solution: Assign one cashier per till session.
Issue: Cashier logs out, but the till remains open.
- Solution: Ensure managers close the till after each shift.
Issue: Team unsure whether to use $0 or set amount as starting balance.
- Solution: Choose one method—either a clean open/close per shift, or a fixed drawer balance with drops over a set threshold.
