# Manage Type 2 UPCs for Items Over $100

> Learn how to manage type 2 UPCs over $100

## Learn how to ensure your scale labels scan correctly at the POS when an item price exceeds \$100.

### The \$100 Scanning Limit

Most grocery scales are set to a **4-digit price** format by default. This means they can only "tell" the POS a price up to $99.99. If an item costs $100.00 or more, the barcode will not scan correctly unless both your **scales** and your **Vori settings** are updated to a **5-digit price** format.

#### Option 1: Update All Store Scales

If you want items over \$100 to scan automatically, you must ensure **every scale and printer** in your store is configured to print 5-digit prices.

1. **Check Scales:** Confirm that all scales (Meat, Deli, Produce) are printing 5-digit price labels.

2. **Notify Vori:** Once your scales are updated, contact Vori Support to update your **POS Configuration** to 5 digits.

3. **Test:** Scan a low-price item and a high-price item to ensure the totals match the label.

⚠️ **Caution:**  If Vori is set to 5-digit PLUs but your scales are still printing 4-digit PLUs, lower-priced items may scan for **much higher amounts** (for example, a $5.00 item may scan as $75.00). This happens because the scanner reads the last digit of the PLU from within the printed barcode.

#### Option 2: Manual Entry for Large Prices

If your scales cannot be updated to 5-digit pricing, you must handle items over \$100 manually to avoid checkout errors.

* **Write the Price:** Use a marker to clearly write the price on the label for the cashier.

* **Disable the Barcode:** **Tear off** or fully cover the barcode on the label. This prevents the cashier from accidentally scanning it and getting an incorrect price.

* **Manual Entry:** The cashier must manually type the price into the **Point of Sale (POS)**.

### What if Items Are Scanning at the Wrong Price?

If you notice price discrepancies at the register, check the following:

* **If the price is too high:** Your Vori system may be looking for 5 digits while your scale is only printing 4.

* **If the price is too low:** Your scale may be printing 5 digits while Vori is only looking for 4.

💡 **Tip:** Consistency is key. All scales in the store must use the same digit format (either all 4-digit or all 5-digit) to ensure scanning accuracy across every department.
