# How to identify card numbers when last four digits don’t match for Apple & Google Pay

> This article explains why tap payments show different last four digits on receipts and shows how to find the correct card number

### Introduction

When reviewing order history, the last four digits of a customer’s card may not match the physical card they used. This is because Apple Pay and Google Pay generate a unique Device Account Number for each transaction.

### Why Do the Last Four Digits Look Different?

Instead of showing the actual card number, digital wallets use a secure, tokenized number for transactions. The last four digits displayed in the POS system or on the receipt reflect this token, not the customer's physical card.

### How to Find the Actual Card Number

If a customer has questions about a charge, compare the last four digits of the receipt with the **virtual card number** stored on their device. This ensures accurate transaction tracking and avoids confusion.

### Where to Find the Virtual Card Number

**Apple Pay:**

1. Open the Wallet app on the iPhone.

2. Select the card used for the transaction.

3. Tap the **More Information (i)** button.

4. Locate the **Device Account Number (DAN)**.

5. Compare the last four digits with those on the receipt.

**Google Pay:**

1. Open the Google Wallet app.

2. Tap the card used for the transaction.

3. Scroll to find the **Virtual Account Number (or DAN)**.

4. Match the last four digits with the receipt.
