Downloadable Produce PLU Cheat Sheet
Quickly access common PLUs for use at checkout.
Introduction
Grocery stores that use Vori’s POS can ring up fresh produce and bulk items using standardized Price Look-Up (PLU) codes. These 4- or 5-digit codes are widely used in the grocery industry and help ensure consistent product identification at checkout.
This article includes a downloadable PLU cheat sheet that your cashiers can reference during transactions. You can print the sheet and keep it at the register or post it in a backroom area.
What are PLU codes?
PLUs (Price Look-Up codes) are used to identify produce and bulk items without barcodes. They are usually:
-
4-digit codes for conventionally grown items (e.g., bananas =
4011
) -
5-digit codes beginning with 9 for organically grown items (e.g., organic bananas =
94011
)
PLUs are set by the International Federation for Produce Standards (IFPS) and recognized by most grocery wholesalers and POS systems.
